Artificial intelligence startup Safe Superintelligence (SSI), co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, a former lead researcher at OpenAI, is seeking to raise over $1 billion in its funding round, with a valuation exceeding $30 billion, according to a Bloomberg report that references an informed source.

The updated valuation ranks SSI among the priciest private tech firms globally. According to sources cited by Reuters in September 2024, the startup was valued at $5 billion in the last round.

The primary investor in this funding round is the venture capital company Greenoaks Capital Partners, which intends to invest $500 million in SSI, as per Bloomberg's source. Greenoaks has put money into other artificial intelligence firms, such as Scale AI and Databricks.

The sources indicated that discussions regarding funding are still in progress and the conditions of the round may alter. Greenoaks chose not to comment, and Sutskever's representatives did not reply to Bloomberg's request for a statement.

Sutzkever revealed the initiation of SSI in June: the firm’s leadership declared its aim to create “secure artificial intelligence systems that greatly surpass human abilities.”
