Airbus sets to ramp up production

The European Airbus group said that it expects the commercial aircraft market to gradually recover to pre-pandemic levels between 2023 and 2025. The company sees the narrow-body airliner segment as the driver of the recovery.

"The civil aviation market is beginning to gradually recover to the levels seen before the COVID-19 pandemic," said Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, "so we want to give our suppliers a clear vision of how we want to meet the needs of the market.

Speaking of its plans for production of the A320 airliner line, the company confirmed plans to produce 45 such aircraft in the fourth quarter of 2021 and urged its suppliers to be ready to ramp up production to 64 in the second quarter of 2023.

The company intends to increase quarterly production to 70 A320-liners by early 2024 and to 75 by 2025.

In the A220 line, the company intends to increase production from the current five aircraft per month to six by early 2022, and to 14 by 2025. In the A350 line, production is planned to increase from the current five aircraft per month to six by autumn 2022.

Airbus's announcement of a market recovery and plans to increase production was received optimistically by investors. Airbus shares gained 7% in Frankfurt and Boeing shares gained 2.3% in OTC trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
