TikTok, the short video service, was the world's most downloaded app for the year. By 2021, the number of active users of the application is expected to reach 1.2 billion: three times more than in 2018. This data was presented on Wednesday by analytics company App Annie, which studied trends in the app market for the current year.
The number of app downloads globally has increased by 10% since the beginning of the year, reaching 130 billion.
The company's experts reported that games were downloaded 53 billion times and other applications were downloaded 77 billion times. User spending in apps increased even more significantly - by 25% to $112 billion, of which $81 billion was spent on games and $31 billion on other apps.

Dating service Tinder leads in spending by app users, followed by TikTok and YouTube. Streaming video services (Disney+, Tencent Video, Netflix and iQIYI) account for almost half of the top 10, while video service Bigo Live, cloud storage service Google One and music streaming service Pandora are also among the leaders.
Overall, "games" and "business" were the most popular categories by number of downloads globally this year.
Android gadget users have spent 3.3 trillion hours in apps since the beginning of the year - 25% more than in 2019. The categories "business" and "education" showed the most significant growth in terms of time spent in the app - it was about 200%.
Social networks and messengers remain the leaders, with a total of 1.5 trillion hours spent, followed by entertainment and video (879 billion hours), games (284 billion) and shopping (80 billion).
