Apple explores possibility of decentralised work

Senior Apple executives expect the company to reduce its reliance on Silicon Valley, where the company is headquartered, in order to retain its workforce, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

According to the publication, Apple's recruiters are finding it difficult to find candidates with diverse backgrounds.

Among the reasons Apple is considering decentralising its workforce, referring to high operating costs and a talent drain related to the high cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA. 

One proponent of Apple's decentralisation, according to Bloomberg, is senior vice president of hardware technology Johnny Johny Srouji and senior vice president of services Eddy Cue.

Apple, which has allowed employees to switch to remote work due to the coronavirus pandemic, will require them to be present in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in the fall. 

In June, The Verge published an internal letter from Apple employees asking them to allow teams to determine whether to work from the office or remotely.
