The document was signed after 9 months of the reign of the interim President of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez. The former head of the country, Evo Morales, has criticized US policy towards Latin America for many years. In addition, he was the author of the nationalization of the oil, gas and mining industries carried out in the country.

“Foreign Minister Karen Longaric and Charge d'Affaires of the United States Bruce Williamson have signed a memorandum of understanding on the initiative for economic growth in the Americas,” the Foreign Ministry said on Twitter.

“The Memorandum of Understanding signed this Tuesday... will attract more private sector investment in infrastructure... so that investment... is transparent, competitive and in line with global best practices,” said the US Embassy in Bolivia.

As part of the Growth in the Americas initiative, it is planned to organize round tables between business and governments, support trade missions and study tours, conduct feasibility studies of projects, and support project financing.

The initiative is already operational in Argentina, Chile, Jamaica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, El Salvador and Honduras.
