The BBC receives funds from the necessary annual charge of 169.5 pounds ($219) paid by every British citizen with a TV set at home. The annual report indicates that at the end of the previous year, there were around 23.9 million such homes in the nation, which is 500,000 fewer than a year earlier. Since 2010, annual revenues have decreased by a third, or roughly £1 billion annually.

The BBC's newly appointed chairman, Samir Shah, has issued a warning that the organization's budget for content creation is being negatively impacted by declining revenue.

With around 21,800 employees, the corporation's management has pledged to “accelerate the pace of change,” which includes more funding for digital broadcasting.
