The Banker magazine revealed its latest rating of thousands of the world's largest banks. The banks are ranked by size of Tier I capital. The global rating does not include banks that belong to foreign parent financial groups, even if these banks are legal entities of the country in which they operate. Such banks are included in the ratings for individual countries. This year, the minimum amount of Tier I capital, which allows a bank to enter the thousand largest banks in the world, amounted to $ 472 million, which is 6.8% more than a year earlier.
There were only minor changes in the top ten world leaders. Just like in the past year, the first two places are taken by Chinese banks ICBC and China Construction Bank. Two other banks from the People's Republic of China - the Agricultural Bank of China and the Bank of China - have switched places in 2019. The only non-Chinese bank in the top five in the world was the American JPMorgan Chase, which retained the fifth position since last year.
In addition to China and the USA, the rating features UK and Japan, as well as financial companies from such countries as Spain (Banco Santander), France (Credit Agricole, BNP Paribas, BPCE Group and Societe Generale), Germany (Deutsche Bank) and Italy (Unicredit).
In total, the top thirty banks in the world consists of eleven banks representing the PRC, six banks from the US, four banks from France and four from Japan, two from the United Kingdom and one bank from Spain, Germany and Italy.
