Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EC, reported that the commission has allocated EUR 220M to ensure the safe transport of patients in medical facilities in various countries of the Europe. She emphasized, however, that knowledge sharing must be strengthened in order to function efficiently.
The EC President has called on EU countries not to rush to lift the new lockdowns after the second coronavirus wave is gone. She indicated that after the first restrictions were removed too early. "We have to realize that we need to combat the virus, to try to restrict its dissemination until there is adequate protection by vaccination among the population," said the President of the European Commission.
The number of cases of novel coronavirus infections is rising in Europe. Because of the deteriorating situation, Spain and Italy have already tightened their lockdowns. On 28 October, French President Emmanuelle Macron instituted a quarantine from 30 October to 1 December. A strict quarantine will be enforced in Germany beginning on 2 November.
