European Council President Charles Michel stated on Friday night that the EU will not take part in a settlement meeting between the Palestinians and Israel if the extremist Hamas movement is involved.

"We view them as a terrorist organization," he told at a press conference in Brussels, "Hamas cannot have any role in a conference involving the EU."

Michel clarified that the concept for this kind of gathering originated in Egypt. Pedro Sanchez, the prime minister of Spain, then brought it up, and the leaders of the EU met to debate the idea.

Ursula von der Leyen, the chair of the European Commission, concurred that there were no prospects for communication with Hamas.
