The European Parliament approved the introduction of COVID certificates in a plenary session, the parliament's website reports.

Office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
The initiative received 546 votes in favour, 93 against and 51 abstentions.

The system has already been launched in test mode. On July 1 it will officially start operating.

The proposal to create a "digital green certificate" was put forward by the European Commission on 17 March. The document will contain three versions of data: information on vaccination against COVID-19, negative PCR tests or a history of disease and immunity.

The certificate will be available free of charge in electronic and paper form, in national and English languages. The document will contain a barcode or QR code, which is necessary for authentication.

For the time being, the COVID passport system will be valid for 12 months. EU residents who possess it will be exempt from the obligation to submit to tests and quarantine when travelling within the EU.
