Facebook is facing growing pressure around the world due to the need to prevent dissemination of offensive and provocative content in the social network.

In these conditions, there are doubts that the user information will remain confidential and will not be used illegally, and the list of states that can provide both adequate infrastructure for creating a data center and freedom of data transmission is declining, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Singapore is stepping up efforts to monitor misuse of social networks. At the same time, the government is positioning itself as a site for building data centers - safe, predictable, and having reliable infrastructure.
Google also chose Singapore to open the data center.
Facebook explained its choice in favor of Singapore by reliable local infrastructure, business-friendly state policy, as well as support from authorities that seek to make Singapore a hub for data centers.
The Singapore data center, which Facebook plans to fully supply with electricity from renewable sources, may begin work already in 2022. It will be the largest datacenter in Singapore.
In total, Facebook manages 14 data centers, mainly in Europe and the US. At the same time, Asia is one of the fastest growing markets for the social network: this region accounts for 40% of its active users, the total number of whom is estimated at about 2.23 billion.
