The sources claim that if the German government takes this action, German businesses like Merck and BASF won't be allowed to sell some of their chemicals to China.

The German Economy Ministry opted not to respond to the newspaper’s request.

China already faces a variety of constraints from Germany. For instance, the German government prevented Chinese investment in two regional semiconductor producers in November of last year.
