Global chip sales add 15.2% in Q1

According to a news statement from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), worldwide chip sales increased by 15.2% year over year in the first quarter, to $137.7 billion.

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the number was lower by 5.7%.

March saw a 15.2% increase in chip sales over the previous year, but a 0.6% decrease from February.

"First-quarter global semiconductor sales grew dramatically over the same period the previous year. SIA President and CEO John Neufer, who was featured in the paper, "the market is expected to continue growing for the remainder of the year, with double-digit growth projected for 2024."

In March, sales increased by 26.3% in the Americas, 27.4% in China, and 11.1% in Asia-Pacific and other regions compared to the same month the previous year. In the meantime, they fell by 9.3% in Japan and 6.8% in Europe.

In the Americas, chip sales fell by 0.1%, in Europe by 0.9%, in Japan by 2%, in APAC by 1.2%. Sales in China were unchanged.

SIA comprises about 66% of international chipmakers and 99% of American chipmakers.
