The Financial Times reports that Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., a major airline based in Hong Kong, is conducting inspections on all its Airbus A350 planes due to an engine issue found on one of them, according to a statement from the company.

Cathay has discovered a defect in a Zurich-bound flight's engine part, causing it to return to Hong Kong. The specific component is not identified, but it is confirmed that the engines were provided by Rolls-Royce from Britain.

Cathay observed that this is the initial global occurrence of such a failure on an A350 aircraft. “There are several other comparable components that need to be replaced. The replacement components have arrived and the repairs have begun,” said the company.

Cathay has scrapped a minimum of 24 round trips until Tuesday because all the airplanes in question need to be inspected.

The company owns 30 A350-900 planes and 18 newer A350-1000s in their fleet.
