According to polls so far, this is not only the lowest level for Kishida's two years as Prime Minister, but also for the entire 11 years since the Liberal Democratic Party led by Shinzo Abe regained power after 4 years of Democratic Party control.
The lowest rating in Shinzo Abe's eight years as Prime Minister was 35.4 percent in August 2020 (due to the government's lax efforts during the pandemic), and his successor and Kishida's predecessor in office Yoshihide Suga's 32.6 percent rating in August 2021. In both situations, this resulted in both resigning as head of government due to the cabinet’s unpopularity.
Only former Prime Minister Taro Aso, currently Kishida's party deputy, had support lower than the present level in December 2008 - 23.9 percent.
