The head of the world's largest social networking site Facebook Mark Zuckerberg met on Wednesday with dozens of US political figures who hold conservative views. The meeting’s objective was to take the edge off the recent reports. Recall that FB has allegedly introduced censorship by supposedly filtering posts of conservative media and politicians out of the news feed recommendations. The founder of the social network first listened to all who came to the meeting, and then assured the audience that any censorship is contrary to the company’s interests.
"Concealment of any political information does not make sense to our mission and our business - Mark Zuckerberg wrote after the meeting. -I know many conservatives do not believe that our newsfeed provides information without any political affiliation. I wanted to hear their arguments and talk openly about how we could build a relationship of trust."
According to the company’s official representative, the politicians themselves admitted the meeting at the headquarters of Facebook was productive. According to Brent Bozell, Media Research Center’s president, «Facebook is sincere in its desire to resolve the emerged differences with the Conservatives."
Last week, Gizmodo, with reference to former Facebook employees who worked on the Topic Trends, said that they had regularly filtered messages of conservative media and heavy hitters out of the newsfeed. In particular, it was reported that Topic Trends for US users tried to avoid reporting on the US conservative wing’s conference, and events related to activities of Republicans Mitt Romney and Paul Rand. After the media exposure, Mark Zuckerberg promised to begin an internal investigation, but said that no trace of news reports censorship has been found so far.
