Ireland's data protection authorities fined Facebook’s parent company Meta €1.2 billion for violations regarding transfer of personal data from the EU to the US.
The fine is the biggest ever levied by the EU for a violation of personal data legislation. Additionally, it is larger than the previous record amount, a €746 million charge levied against Amazon in 2021.
According to the ruling, which exclusively pertains to the social media platform Facebook, Meta has been given five months to stop sending data from the EU to the US.
