Microsoft digital solutions to help Equinor implement carbon storage project

The American company Microsoft will sign up as a technology partner of Equinor, the oil and gas company from Norway.

The firms are going to develop the Northern Lights carbon storage and capture project near the Norwegian shore, reads a message by Equinor.

“Equinor signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft as a technology partner to work through ways to develop the Northern Lights carbon storage and capture project. Microsoft will explore the possibility of using this project to ensure transportation and storage of captured CO2,” reads the message.

The companies will develop digital technologies for the project together. Additionally, Microsoft is going to consider investments in the Northern Lights.

Equinor is working on the project with Shell and Total as equal partners.

Norwegian Equinor was established as Statoil in 1972. Nowadays, the Norwegian state owns 67% of the group's shares. The firm employs 20,000 people. Revenue of Equinor in 2019 was $ 62.9 bln.
