Tesla CEO Elon Musk demanded from top managers of the company to come back from remote work to the office or to quit the company. This follows from a copy of a letter on behalf of Musk that appeared on Twitter. Musk did not confirm its authenticity, but also did not dispute it when he directly responded to a post containing the document. The subject line of the letter states that "remote work is no longer allowed."
Musk's statements are of particular interest given the situation at the Tesla plant in Shanghai, Bloomberg notes. Workers there have essentially been locked in for months and have been working 12-hour shifts six days a week, with many sleeping on the floor until recently.
It was done because of the quarantine policy of Chinese authorities to fight the coronavirus, but so as not to stop production of electric cars, the agency noted. Workers were shuttled between assembly lines and sleeping quarters, with day and night shifts sharing beds in the dormitory, Bloomberg added.
