North Korea confirms launch of intercontinental ballistic missile

Pyongyang has confirmed the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan on Thursday morning.

The missile department of North Korea carried out a significant test on Thursday. According to a spokesperson from the DPRK Defense Ministry, the recent test launch, authorized by the leader of the DPRK, enhanced knowledge on their strategic missile capability and showcased the effectiveness of their top strategic deterrent.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un declared that North Korea's launching of an intercontinental ballistic missile exhibited the country's determination to counter enemies.

According to the agency, Kim Jong-un stated that the test-fire is a suitable military action that effectively communicates their readiness to respond to adversaries who have escalated tensions in the region and threatened our Republic's security, as well as being a crucial step in our state's ongoing development.

He stressed that 'North Korea will always maintain its stance on enhancing its nuclear capabilities'.

In the meantime, South Korea announced they would enforce additional sanctions on Pyongyang following the rocket launch.
