"I am confident that this is the greatest way to add value to our alliance," Senard commented on the possibility of spinning off electric car production into a separate business to Japanese television station NHK.
Senard also stated that "if Nissan and Mitsubishi decide to engage in this project, they will choose the most appropriate type of participation." Investment might be one kind of participation, according to the TV station.
A strategy plan for the alliance was made public earlier this month, in which Renault Group, Nissan Motor, and Mitsubishi Motors pledge to invest €23 billion in the development of electric vehicle production. Mitsubishi Motors will increase its presence in Europe as part of the plan with two new models, including the New ASX, which is based on Renault's most popular models.
Renault, on the other hand, plans to establish a centralized electric and electronic architecture and build the first fully computerized vehicle by 2025. Nissan will also take the lead in developing entirely solid-state battery technology.
By 2026, the alliance members want to raise the use of common vehicle platforms from 60% to over 80% of the total of 90 models.
