According to Reuters, officials in Philadelphia, Detroit, and Atlanta are working to avoid a recurrence of the '2020 chaos' following Donald Trump's refusal to accept his election loss. The agency reports that officials in these and other cities in swing states are getting ready for misinformation, conspiracy theories, and potential violence in anticipation of the election.

In Philadelphia, a barbed-wire fence is surrounding the location where votes are being counted. In Detroit and Atlanta, certain polling locations have bulletproof glass for protection. The cities of Philadelphia, Detroit, and Atlanta are located in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia, that is, in the swing states in which the election result is difficult to foresee.

In Wisconsin, poll workers are receiving training in methods to calm situations down. Polling stations are arranged in a way that allows poll workers to depart if they feel endangered by demonstrators. Local authorities in Arizona are receiving instructions on how to react to false information.

According to election officials speaking to Reuters, their biggest concern is a scenario where candidates receive a nearly equal amount of votes. If that happens, the election result will rely on legal actions regarding a few contested ballots. Reuters reports that Republican poll observers are instructed to meticulously monitor the polls, while some are still unwilling to acknowledge Mr. Trump's loss in 2020.
