Previously, Roh Tae-moon managed development of Samsung mobile devices, including being responsible for the flagship Galaxy smartphones. In addition, most of the production of mobile gadgets was transferred to third-party organizations in China under his leadership.

The South Korean manufacturer was forced to cut costs in order to cope with competition from low-cost Chinese brands, including Huawei. IDC research company IDC reports that in the second quarter of 2019, Samsung was still the world leader with a market share of 22.9%. However, Huawei is gradually approaching it, whose share in the world market is 17.7%; the company is gradually ousting Apple from the second place in sales.
