Tesla has added the TikTok app to its electric car software in China. For now, drivers will only be able to watch videos when they're not driving the car.

US company Tesla, founded by billionaire Elon Musk, has included integration of the TikTok app in a software update for electric cars sold in China, Electrec reported, citing a message from Tesla's official account on Chinese social network Weibo

Tesla owners in China can now watch videos in the Chinese version of TikTok, Douyin, on their car screens - but only while they're not driving the car but resting or charging the battery (which takes 45 minutes to several hours). The full feature will be available once Tesla unveils its driverless driving software.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously promised that this will happen before the end of 2021. For now, the software is available in beta mode for a few users, but does not provide full autonomy and requires a qualified driver to be behind the wheel, ready to take control at any time.

In addition to Douyin integration, the update for China includes several other new features. In particular, Tesla has improved voice recognition in the car, allowing it to understand more user commands, updated the QQ Music Lyrics app (a music service similar to Spotify in the US). The release of the update coincides with the Chinese New Year, the celebration of which began on February 12.
