The government's "Homes for Ukrainians" initiative, which assists refugees who have been in the UK for more than six months, will shortly come to an end, according to the newspaper. The program's guidelines note that homeowners who agree to house Ukrainian refugees receive 350 pounds sterling each month. The government has not yet announced any plans to continue the program or provide further funding for these sponsors.
The Homes for Ukrainians program, which has been in operation since March, reportedly has roughly 84,000 participants in the United Kingdom. By the end of the winter, 15–21,000 Ukrainians could find themselves without a place to live, and by the middle of 2023, the number of homeless refugees could reach 50,000, according to projections made by specialists, as reported by The Guardian. Refugees at Home claims the number may even be higher because of rising inflation and housing costs.
Some host families and groups said that without extra government funding, they would be unable to take in migrants. Finding new locations to stay might be very expensive and challenging, according to The Guardian.
