Toyota's output in Japan reached 266,000 vehicles, marking a 22% increase compared to the previous year. This contributed to countering a small decrease (-1.4%, 515.7 thousand) in production abroad.
Output in Asia dropped 5.3% year-on-year, totaling 234.7 thousand. In North America and Europe, production increased by 178.5 thousand (+3.2%) and 72.6 thousand (+3.9%), respectively.
Analysts interviewed by Bloomberg attribute the rebound in production to the company's progress in overcoming several scandals related to recalls and tighter regulations. By the end of last year, Toyota's worldwide output declined by 1.4% to 10.15 million vehicles. Nonetheless, the company successfully maintained its leading position globally, producing 9 million cars each year.
