CNN previously reported that the General Services Administration (GSA) and its head, Emily Murphy, had declared Biden the winner of the election and was ready to begin the transfer of power.
"We are making good progress, we will continue to fight hard, I am sure we will win! However, in the best interests of our country, I recommend that Emily (Murphy) and her team do everything necessary regarding the original protocols and I told my team to do the same," Trump tweeted.
He also stated that Murphy has been "harassed, threatened and abused" for her "firm allegiance" to the US.
"I don't want this to happen to her or the GSA staff," Trump said.
Thus, the current US president has once again refused to accept his defeat in the elections, although he has allowed formal transfer of power procedures to begin.
The next US president will be sworn in on 20 January 2021.
