Turkey will require insurance for tankers passing through the Bosporus

On December 1, according to Bloomberg, Turkey plans to start requesting proof of insurance from tankers traveling across the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.

According to the newspaper, ships moving oil across this strait and the adjoining Dardanelles Strait will have to present a document from their insurance provider confirming that the policy covers this specific route and cargo.

The new regulations will go into force on December 1, 2022, the government claims.

The insurance requirement is being implemented just before Europe's anti-Russian sanctions take effect, as Bloomberg points out.
