According to The Wall Street Journal's analysis of MyLogIQ data, two-thirds of the top executives of U.S. corporations on the S&P 500 list had compensation packages (salaries and equity bonuses) that finished 2022 lower than their target.
Only 140 executives exceeded expectations, and the CEOs of 46 companies received at least double what the board had anticipated paying them.
The average executive salary package for the S&P 500 dropped from a record $14.7 million in 2021 to $14.5 million overall in 2022. Top executives' pay at significant U.S. corporations did not increase for the first time in a decade.
