According to sources, on Friday representatives of the Justice Ministry and officials involved in antitrust activities held an online meeting to discuss the alleged lawsuit. According to the publication, the final decision regarding charges against Google will be made by US Attorney General William Barr. This is expected to happen in the next few weeks.
The alleged lawsuit, according to the publication, will accuse Google of monopolizing the market for advertising and search technologies, in particular due to the fact that the company made contacts with Apple and manufacturers of mobile phones running the Android operating system that require the "default " installation of the search system. The spokesman for the US Department of Justice declined to comment on this information.
In June 2019, the U.S. House Judicial Committee announced that it would begin verifying compliance with antitrust laws in digital markets. A number of US media reported that the antitrust investigation will affect technology giants such as Facebook, Amazon, Google and Apple.
Last September, 50 state attorneys announced they were launching an investigation into Google, which they suspected was a monopoly on the Internet advertising and search market. According to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, every minute 3.8 million search operations and millions of advertising money are running on Google’s site, and Google controls results of most of these searches.
