US says China should bear equal responsibility for preventing confrontation

The White House stated that U.S. Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan emphasized that both the United States and China share a responsibility to avoid conflict and confrontation.

The statement mentioned that Jake Sullivan, the President's National Security Advisor, held a meeting with Zhang Yuxia, Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), in Beijing on August 29. During the meeting, Sullivan highlighted the importance of both countries working to prevent competition from turning into conflict or confrontation.

Both parties emphasized the significance of consistent military communication to uphold diplomacy and open channels of dialogue, acknowledging advancements made in the past ten months.

The White House informed that Sullivan also emphasized the significance of peace and stability on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, the U.S. dedication to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, and apprehensions regarding China's backing of Russia's defense industry.

The US presidential adviser warned about the importance of preventing misjudgments and rising tensions in cyberspace between the US and China, while also discussing efforts to achieve a truce and hostage deal in Gaza.
