The German concern Volkswagen has become the first automaker in history to sell 3 million cars in a single foreign country within a calendar year. As the press service of VW reported, the automaker reached a record high in the Chinese market. "We are honored that already three million customers in China trusted us by acquiring Volkswagen," said Stephan Wöllenstein, head of the Chinese branch of VW.

The Chinese direction of VW is growing rapidly, the automaker says. Limousines and SUVs are in great demand. The company believes that Volkswagen’s products will also be competitive in China in the coming "era of electric cars".

Volkswagen continues to experience difficult times in connection with the "Dieselgate". In early December, top manager VW Oliver Schmidt was sentenced in the United States to seven years in prison and a fine of $ 400 thousand dollars. According to the court, Schmidt was involved in manipulating the tests for VW engines' compliance with environmental standards. Before the announcement of the verdict, Schmidt accused the former employer of lying. According to the ex-manager, Volkswagen had been hiding manipulation with the software for more than ten years.
