According to a World Health Organization (WHO) research on the physical activity status, between 2020 and 2030, there may be more than 500 million cases of preventable noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) due to sedentary lifestyles. According to the organization, the cost of treating the diseases will be more than $300 billion.

"Hypertension (47%) and depression (43) will each contribute 43% of the new cases of NCDs. In lower- or upper-middle-income nations, cases will account for 75 percent of all cases.

According to the paper's analysis of the economic implications of the existing scenario, high-income countries will be responsible for 70% of the health costs associated with treating illnesses brought on by physical inactivity."

The COVID-19 pandemic and a comparison of disease tolerance among patients with various degrees of physical fitness are also included in the report as evidence of the value of physical activity.

The WHO stated in September that the pandemic would end soon since the global incidence of COVID-19 had dropped to its lowest level since March 2020.
