WHO to call emergency meeting because of monkeypox outbreak

WHO will convene an emergency meeting of experts to discuss the outbreak of monkeypox. Cases of the infection have been recorded in at least 10 countries around the world.

The World Health Organization (WHO) will convene an emergency expert group meeting to discuss an outbreak of monkeypox. This is reported by The Telegraph newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the main topics of the meeting will be the routes of transmission, the situation with vaccination, and also "unusually high prevalence of the disease among gay and bisexual men". Mike Ryan, executive director of WHO's health emergency program, is expected to attend the meeting.

Cases of monkeypox have been reported in at least 10 countries around the world: Britain, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, Canada, the United States and Australia, Politico writes. In particular, 14 cases of infection were reported in Portugal, 30 cases in Spain, two cases in Italy and one case each in Belgium and Sweden.
