Meteorologists said that the air quality in Paris deteriorated on Wednesday, July 31. Ozone was the primary pollutant. Experts advise that in case of symptoms (such as itchy eyes, cough, sore throat, etc.), it is best to reduce outdoor physical activity.

Prior to the commencement of the Olympic Games in Paris, a research conducted by Respire, a national organization dedicated to enhancing air quality, revealed that nearly every sports facility in the city had surpassed the air quality guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO). Respire advised for less outdoor training and proposed delaying certain competitions in case pollution levels become critically high during the Games.

Air quality is not the only environmental issue that has arisen with the Olympics. Before the Games, high levels of water pollution were recorded in the Seine River, which can cause intestinal and skin infections in athletes.
