The documents are said to have originated from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency. As per the documentation, Israel is currently in the process of readying its military forces for a retaliatory strike against Iran's missile attack on 1 October, as reported by the agency.

This data could potentially be exchanged within the Five Eyes alliance, consisting of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Nevertheless, last Friday the documents initially appeared on Telegram social media from an account based in Tehran.

Currently, US officials are investigating whether the data was intentionally leaked by a member of the US intelligence community or if it was made public due to a hacking incident. Investigators are also attempting to determine if any other information was disclosed, and are investigating who had access to the documents prior to the leak.
