“This is already among the most devastating wildfires in California’s history. If additional structures are consumed by flames in the following days, the wildfires may turn into the largest in the state's contemporary history regarding the count of burned buildings and financial damages," stated AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter.
Mr. Porter stated that the damage assessment - $250-275 billion - is still a preliminary figure. He stated that dangers persist for the residents of Los Angeles, their properties, local enterprises, and the tourism industry. At that, the level of damage in several regions remains uncertain.
A significant wildfire is presently burning in the region situated between the cities of Santa Monica and Malibu, which features some of the priciest residential properties in the United States. The blaze there has extended across a region of 95.9 square kilometers.
The wildfires in Los Angeles County ignited on January 7 and affected the regions of Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Eaton, Altadena, and Hearst. At least 24 individuals are reported to have passed away. Over 12,000 structures were consumed by fire. President Joe Biden announced a major disaster alert in the state.
