Scott Rubner, a technical strategist at Goldman Sachs Group, expects that the S&P 500 American stock index could achieve 6,000 points by the end of this year. MarketWatch reports that the forecast predicts an approximately 5% increase in the indicator from its current levels.

Rubner anticipates a late October start for the rally in the U.S. stock market, with three weeks of heightened volatility expected beforehand. Large changes in the index can occur due to hedge funds decreasing their stock positions ahead of the U.S. presidential election and mutual funds adjusting their portfolios before the fiscal year ends on October 31.

In the last five sessions, the Cboe Volatility Index, also known as the Wall Street Fear Index, has already surged by 30 per cent.

‘This indicates that volatility is now actively participating in the game instead of just observing from the sidelines,’ Rubner commented.

The S&P 500 index has increased by close to 20 per cent since the beginning of the year, reaching a record high on Monday for the 42nd time in the year.
