The TV channel stated that this implies Japan will have a new prime minister in the near future.

During the press conference, Kishida stated that politics is reliant on trust from the public in order to operate effectively. Kishida clarified that he made the difficult decision to promote political reforms and considered the public's interests.

NHK reported that he emphasized the importance of voters demonstrating that the Liberal Democratic Party will undergo change in the next elections. Transparent and open elections, along with unrestricted debates, are crucial, he stated.

Reuters reports that Kishida decided not to participate in the upcoming election due to public dissatisfaction with political scandals and high living expenses in Japan. NHK reports that recent surveys indicate a lack of approval for Kishida's cabinet.
