CNBC has reported the news, citing a letter sent to staff members by Amazon Vice President Daniel Rausch.
"We are redirecting some of our activity to better align with business priorities, including to maximise resources and efforts in generative artificial intelligence," the letter stated.
The layoffs will impact employees at the unit in the US, Canada, and India.
Recently, Amazon has already let go more than 27,000 workers, and some unprofitable programs have been phased down.
The company's capitalization has increased by 71.5% to $1.48 trillion from the start of 2023.
