In total, the company employs about 4.5 thousand people.

Earlier British Steel, owned by the Chinese Jingye Group, failed to reach an agreement with the UK government to provide it with state support, which would have allowed continuing the work of steelmaking enterprises.

The government may face the question of the need to nationalize the company if it fails to find buyers for its assets, writes the FT. British Steel is a critical business for the country: in particular, it is the main supplier of steel to British Railways.

Jingye Group notes that British Steel makes a daily loss of about 700 thousand pounds ($905 thousand), although the Chinese company has invested in it a total of 1.2 billion pounds.
