Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Belgium announced in a statement on Belgium's Federal Food Chain Safety Agency AFSCA website that soft drinks (in returnable glass bottles and cans) from various brands with production codes ranging from 328 GE to 338 GE (inclusive) are under recall.
The firm stated it was mentioning Coke, Sprite, Fanta, Fuze Tea, Minute Maid, Nalu, Royal Bliss, and Tropico, which would be available in Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, France, Germany, and Luxembourg starting from November 2024. The high chlorate levels were found during a quality compliance check at the Ghent facility.
Coca-Cola highlighted that the majority of the unsold drinks have been taken off the shelves.
In 2015, the European Food Safety Authority acknowledged that extended exposure to chlorate presents a possible health threat to children, particularly those with mild to moderate iodine deficiency.
