A document published in the EU's official journal states that duties ranging from 12.8% to 36.4% are applied to producers for a period of six months.
The decision comes after the European Commission conducted an inquiry due to complaints from European biofuel manufacturers.
The Federation of Transport & Environment (T&E) backed the imposition of anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese biodiesel, stating that it is crucial to safeguard the European market. Nevertheless, specialists are worried that these actions will not address the issue of illicit palm oil use, which may be concealed as biodiesel.
The organization is determined to enhance controls over the source of raw materials and transparency in supply chains in order to avoid bypassing regulations. A representative of the federation thinks that the EU should cease encouraging unverifiable imported waste oils and transition from industry-wide verification to more stringent regulation.
Currently, over 80% of UCO (used cooking oil), which is a feedstock for biofuels, is imported by the EU, with China making up 60% of these imports.
