The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is requesting an injunction to prevent Microsoft from completing its acquisition of Activision Blizzard (publisher of Call of Duty, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and other games). The regulator asked a federal judge to grant an injunction with a temporary restraining order until the outcome of the FTC's own procedures, reports The Wall Street Journal.
The FTC submitted a related application to the San Francisco federal court. It mentions media claims that Microsoft is considering terminating the agreement despite opposition from American and British regulators.
"We are excited about the chance to argue our case in federal court. In regards to the forthcoming trial," Microsoft President Brad Smith stated, "We think that expediting the U.S. litigation would ultimately result in more choice and competition in the marketplace."
