What's new at Auto China 2016

The prestigious international auto show Auto China 2016 opened in Beijing. Among other major specialized forums, the exhibition is one of the most important for automakers, as the Chinese car market today is confidently ranked first in the world in terms of sales.

The exhibition is held for the 14th time. The large event occupies a hall with area of 220 thousand sq.m, which is divided by 1.6 thousand booths. In total, there is almost 1.2 thousand models presented at the motor show, more than a hundred of which are shown to the public for the first time.

Chinese brands will show several new products. For example, Geely presented among other a business sedan GC9 and crossover NL3. The technical details are yet to be updated.

In turn, Lifan brand introduced Maiwai crossover. The model is equipped with a modest 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 109 h.p. and 1.8-liter engine, giving out 131 h.p. Both engines are paired with the mechanical gearbox, or a variator.

As promised before, Renault brought to Beijing the next generation of Koleos crossover, the design of which resembles Talisman model. In addition to the transformed appearance, the model has, for example, LED optics, heated steering wheel and a number of driver assistance systems.

New Koleos is based on the CMF platform, on which Nissan X-Trail is built, and is equipped with all-wheel drive system. The new crossover boasts with extended capabilities on the roads thanks to the ground clearance increased from 206 to 213 mm. The model will be sold in a few dozen countries.

Mazda showed a new compact crossover CX-4, which was embodied out of the concept car Koeru. The crossover will be equipped with the 2- and 2.5-liter petrol engines with 155 and 196 h.p. respectively. The novelty with top-end engine has all-wheel drive. The crossover will be produced already this summer.

Volkswagen held the world premiere of a new pre-production concept of a large SUV T-Prime Concept GTE. It is possible that this concept could serve as a basis of new Touareg’s generation.

All controls inside the prototype are touchpads, except for the levers turn signals and wipers. Even the transmission modes are switched by the sensors.

The concept is based on the MLB platform and is equipped with a hybrid propulsor with a 2-liter gasoline engine producing 248 h.p. and an electric motor giving 134 h.p. The 8-speed automatic transmission is a special feature, too.

Within the showroom, representatives of the German brand told about their ambitious plans for the SUV market. In the next four years, the company is going to release seven new models in this segment.

Auto China 2016 offers many other interesting new products from leading manufacturers, yet the vast majority of them will be presented mainly in China.

Motor Show will open its doors from 29 April to 4 May for regular visitors. Until that time, the salon will work for the press only. It is expected that this year's event will be visited by at least 800 thousand people.
