"Even though I had planned to run for reelection, I think it would be better for my party and nation if I withdrew from the race and concentrated on carrying out my obligations as President for the rest of my term," according to a statement shared on social network X.

It is claimed that Biden will give an explanation of his choice in a statement later this week.

Calls for Biden to withdraw from the campaign had become more and more vocal earlier in the Democratic Party. His popularity started to decline following a contentious debate with former President Donald Trump. CNN sources claim that party contributors have vowed to stop giving if Biden doesn't leave the race.

According to a poll by YouGov and The Economist, up to 79% of Democrats would be in favor of U.S. The Hill reports that Vice President Kamala Harris challenging Biden in the campaign.

The US presidential election is expected to take place on November 5, 2024.
