Musk announced his intention to step down as CEO in late December after hiring "someone foolish enough." The businessman was reportedly aggressively hunting for a new CEO for Twitter at the time, according to CNBC.
Elon Musk eventually completed the $44 billion acquisition of Twitter at the end of October 2022. He committed to creating a content moderation board, liberalizing the social network's editorial policy, and refraining from making broad decisions regarding the editorial policy and the unblocking of blocked accounts until the board is operational. The social network had received much criticism for its strict censorship.
