UBS reports 4.2% growth in global household wealth in 2023

Global families’ wealth climbed by 4.2% in US dollars in 2023, according to Swiss bank UBS's annual Global Wealth Report.

The dollar's strength versus the majority of other major foreign currencies contributed significantly to the figure's 3% decline in 2022, which marked the first decline since the 2008 financial crisis.

The Americas saw a 3.6% growth in wealth, the Asia-Pacific area saw a 4.4% increase, and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) saw a 4.8% gain.

With an average income per adult of $166k, EMEA residents were the richest, followed by those in APAC ($156k) and the Americas ($146k).

Turkey had a 157% gain in wealth per adult in 2023, followed by roughly 20% increases in Qatar and Russia and 16% in South Africa.

Switzerland continues to be the nation with the richest citizens ($709.5 thousand), followed by Luxembourg ($607.5 thousand) in second place. The US ($564.9 thousand) dropped to fourth place, and Hong Kong ($582 thousand) jumped up to third.

The three countries with the highest concentration of dollar millionaires are the United States, mainland China, and the United Kingdom. Three-quarters of the millionaires in the world live in the United States.
