Bloomberg points out that Tesla's car deliveries in the first quarter of 2025 fell considerably short of even Brinkman's pessimistic forecasts. In his opinion, this validates the "unmatched harm" to the brand that JPMorgan cautioned about. Brinkman noted that Tesla's sales report "led us to believe we might have undervalued the extent" of the adverse consumer response.
Brinkman reduced Tesla's earnings estimate for the first quarter to $0.36 per share. The earlier projection indicated expectations of $0.4 per share, while the average analyst estimate stands at $0.46, as noted by Bloomberg. JPMorgan's analyst has also reduced Tesla's annual earnings prediction to $2.3 per share.
Tesla's deliveries in the first quarter were the lowest since 2022, totaling only 336,861 vehicles, significantly below analysts' predictions. Investors anticipated a challenging beginning to the year due to the Model Y update and the tendency for the first quarter to be the weakest period for vehicle sales; however, sales were further affected by the public response to Musk's actions. He has significantly backed far-right politicians and movements both in the U.S. and internationally, advocating for reductions in government personnel as the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk's actions have sparked public protests nicknamed the Tesla Takedown initiative.
