As per a press statement issued by the companies, the agreement's total will reach $3.5 billion. Scopely, which is owned by a branch of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), will acquire the rights to the games Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now.

In 2015, Niantic was separated from Google, which is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. John Hanke, the CEO and founder, was engaged in satellite mapping prior to heading Google's Geo product division. In 2024, the firm earned $1 billion in revenue from the video game sector, boasting approximately 30 million monthly active players.

Niantic became well-known as the creator of the Pokemon Go game, launched in 2016, which quickly turned into a worldwide sensation. The company claims that Pokemon Go is the most downloaded and lucrative augmented reality application ever.
